Bcr’s Kgauhelo Bailie says ” The MEM Award  nomination caught me off guard and really validates that any young person can join the industry with the right people and heart filled with passion”.

Kgauhelo Bailie is a high school debater and Pageant model who ventured under Face of Black Community Radio and later became Mr Teen Kagiso under the Naomi M Foundation

Well , I’d confidently say it’s my husky voice alongside my pace , additionally my love for news reciprocated with the duty I have when it comes to reading news”. He said.


Speaking to the publication about challenges in the industry he said Well , since the pandemic striked – we were obliged to record news from home and with that , the late submissions became a strain due to lack of data and this reflected somewhat incompetence “.
Also pronunciations of other words kind of threw me off which opposed as a minor challenge ” .
He expressed


It’s believed his journey started in 2019. ” I remember this started in decber 2019 when my beautiful station manager , Eshdey Diphae, decided to put me under her mentorship even though I don’t have any qualifications  , she saw something beyond my flaws and this really inspired me more especially hearing leading anchors in the industry “.
His greatest aspiration is Morena Mithupi (YFM Sports Reporter) .”His reseme hold great accolades more esp in TV presenting ; The reason why he is so influential to my forming radio career is because he delivers Bulletins in a conversational manner and is so at ease when doing such “. He sighed!
When asked what MemAwards nomination means to him he saidThe MEM Award  nomination caught me off guard and really validates that any young person can join the industry with the right people and heart filled with passion “. 
According to Bailie News presenters are not given enough platform.No, they don’t.In status quo , most Radio Stations or Companies prioritize qualification more tha passion and without realizing they are throwing spectacular presenters and anchors who’d uplift the company. So in conclusion , Talented Radio heads are not given much attention because they lack PR”. He explained
In conclusion he said to aspiring news presenters Listen to different news  anchors on radio and find yourself in them , creat your own style in speaking , record demo’s or videos and finally send various managers and post on social media because your blow might be near and also don’t forget why you started  !

On Saturday, 02 November, Kaya 959’s radio host Andy Maqondwana, was announced as “Radio DJ of the Year” at the inaugural VN Global Awards that took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cape Town on Saturday October 30, 2021.

A first of its kind, the VN Global Awards were established this year and seek to recognise creatives in media and entertainment on a global platform. Beaming with excitement as she shared on her social media, this is Maqondwana’s first radio award since the beginning of her 10-year career in the industry. 

When you do what you love, you don’t ask for acknowledgement or recognition but when you do get recognised, it’s just a reminder of ‘the why’. Why I’m doing it, why I’ve sacrificed so much to be here in this moment, and it makes it all worth it 10 years down the road”, says Maqondwana.

Having recently found a new home at Kaya 959 hosting “Reloaded with Andy” on Saturday afternoons from 3 to 6, Maqondwana has proved to be a popular addition to the Kaya 959 weekend line-up. She began her radio career at Stellenbosch University’s MFM campus radio station. Shortly after, she moved to commercial radio station KFM in Cape Town, followed by a stint at Joburg’s 947 where she was dubbed the “Brunch Bae” by her listeners.

It’s believed his musical journey started in 2007 when he was introduced into kwaito and House music , aspired by Kalawa Jazmee and Durban finest the star makes strides in a big way!

Hyper4Cus”‘ is the latest single by singer-songwriter/Rapper WaveSa released a month ago across all digital platforms.

The hit song is currently available in all digital stores and a music video available on Channel- 0. 

The radio single added on a playlist on Black community radio and tops the charts sitting at No 10 week 47 !
Review: ‘Hypa4cus’ was aspired from the struggle and how people live in the streets and how they live their lives and yet make it out of nothing.
This song has been causing a serious havoc and damage figuratively – a lot of people have been relating, the majority of people found it very relatable and amazing,unique or different, as I’ve been getting a lot of positive reviews on a song” he added.

Mrs Universe Africa-Fikile Mdiniso says  “Anyone that wishes to enter the competition must be a woman who lives and owns their story and truth even when others don’t agree!





A Gutzy and a strong woman loves, forgives, walks away, lets go, tries again, perseveres… no matter what life hands her she makes a lemonade out of lemons.

Fikile Mdiniso was crowed Mrs Universe Africa 2021 on the 24th September 2021 at The Menlyn Barnyard Theatre in Pretoria. 
There were 20 finalists selected to compete for the crown amongst 70 semifinalists. Fikile mentions the journey came with a lot of self-discovery and growth. She adds that it has challenged her to step outside of her comfort zone and look outside of herself to find how she can be of purpose to others.

She says Mrs Universe Africa has helped her find a sisterhood, change the narrative and live by the notion of beauty with purpose. She encourages women that it is never too late to dream again and try again and to fetch their lives and fetch their dreams.
“Anyone that wishes to enter the competition must be a woman who lives and owns their story and truth even when others don’t agree.  She musiiit have the courage to break the glass ceiling and change the narrative”; says Fikile. 


“Winning Mrs Universe Africa means I am a role model to an African girl and an example to African women that it is possible. The world will see what an Essence of an African Woman is through me and my journey of reign. The title is bigger than me as an individual and it will give me an opportunity to change the narrative by educating that beauty can be intellectual, intelligent, purposeful and make an impact in society. 
“I aim to build a culture amongst women of a sisterhood and living with beauty and purpose;” said Fikile. 


 As the crowned Queen, she will present the African continent at the Mrs Universe pageant in Seoul, South Korea this November. She is honored to be entrusted with this task and is looking forward to representing Africa on a global stage.
