Following the remarkable success of Passage – A Boy’s Journey to Manhood at last year’s National Arts Festival, acclaimed director Peabo Embrose Athenkosi returns to the same stage with an exciting new production, GQWIRHA.
Presented by Sisonke Performing Arts in collaboration with Northern Cape Theatre, GQWIRHA has already made a strong impression on festival audiences and is set to conclude its National Arts Festival run with a final performance tomorrow at 16:00 at the Centenary Hall.
For audiences who witnessed the emotional impact of Passage in 2025, Athenkosi’s return represents another chapter in his commitment to creating theatre that is bold, thought-provoking, and deeply rooted in South African storytelling. Once again, the Centenary Hall becomes the home of his artistic vision, as he brings a fresh production that continues to challenge, inspire, and engage audiences.
GQWIRHA showcases the collaborative strength of Sisonke Performing Arts and Northern Cape Theatre, reflecting a shared commitment to nurturing authentic African stories and providing a platform for exceptional performers and creatives.
